Concept:
I wanted to create another painting using a very limited palette, so I chose only three colors: Ivory Black for the darks, Old Holland Blue Grey for the mid-tones, and eventually Titanium White for the highlights. I based the composition on a photo I took of a tree near my neighborhood, located at the entrance to a beautiful stretch of farmland.

If you look closely, near the base of a lower limb at the trunk’s center, you’ll find a subtle vertical eye painted into the bark. Trees, some of which live for centuries—others for millennia—have long been seen as ancient witnesses to the passage of time. In this eye, I wanted to capture that quiet vigilance, the sense that these living giants are always watching, always remembering.
